In my work, I have seen hundreds of
thousands of acres of forest land get bought, sold, harvested and
seen many good opportunities for land purchases come and go
without the required capital to make a purchase. I have also seen
many of these properties fall prey to "rape and run" timber
harvesting practices by unscrupulous sawmill owners and people out
to make a quick buck in the land and timber business.
By adding value instead of exploiting land, I
feel it is possible to be good stewards and make money at the same
time. As an avid sportsman, I have been hunting in Pennsylvania
for over thirty years. As with many other middle-aged hunters, I
have become increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of hunting
in this state. As I talk to many hunters and landowners I realize
the increasing demand for quality hunting experiences and good
land stewardship. My dream is to create a land trust that will
preserve wild lands, preserve our hunting heritage and provide
wildlife and timber commodities for future generations.
The Sportsman's Conservation Trust is a
conservation effort that will purchase quality hunting tracts to
be managed for quality hunting and sustainable timber production.
Tax deductible contributions will preserve places to hunt on land
that is intensively and professionally managed to provide quality
hunting and recreational experiences for contributors.
